I've been a freelance copywriter for a lot of years and I can testify that your advice here is excellent, Nick. The only minor quibble I have is that in (#2) planning on getting a solid 40 hours for freelance work per week is a rather big stretch. You might be wise to start with, say, 20 hours a week as more realistic.
